Jordon Newton PhD Candidate in Political Science Washington University in St. Louis
I'm a PhD candidate in political science at Washington University in St. Louis. My research interests are centered around the U.S. electoral process, congress, and state legislatures particularly testing the ways that electoral systems and legislative processes might influence representational outcomes. My research has been featured in Legislative Studies Quarterly.
Prior to my time in academia, I served as a researcher for the Citizens Research Council of Michigan, where I analyzed various different state policy areas and synthesized topics via written reports and presentations for a variety of different groups. Examples include testifying at the House Transportation Committee on highway funding mechanisms, speaking at public events to describe state ballot issues, and meeting with various stake-holder groups to better understand the research needs for the state.
I earned my Bachelors in Science in Economics at Gonzaga University in 2015, and my Masters' in Public Policy at Michigan State University in 2017.
Outside of my academic interests, I'm usually watching Gonzaga basketball, lamenting the state of Cardinals baseball, or hanging out with my dog Mio. She disapproves of all my other interests, and her side-eye will make sure everyone knows that.
